1. What Are Cookies
Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They allow us to remember your preferences, keep you signed in, and understand how people use SnackIQ so we can make it better.
Similar technologies — such as localStorage, sessionStorage, and pixel tags — work in comparable ways and are covered by this policy.
2. Cookies We Use
SnackIQ uses a minimal set of cookies, grouped into the following categories:
- Strictly necessary: These cookies are required for the service to function. They handle authentication (keeping you signed in), session management, and security (CSRF protection). These cannot be disabled without breaking the service.
- Functional:These remember your preferences — such as your selected topics, display settings, and notification preferences — so you don't have to re-enter them on every visit.
- Analytics: We use anonymous, aggregate analytics to understand which pages are popular and how learners navigate through the app. No personally identifiable data is collected in analytics cookies. You can opt out at any time.
- Advertising (optional):If you've consented, we may use cookies to show relevant advertisements and measure their effectiveness. These are only active if you explicitly accept them.
3. Third-Party Cookies
Some third-party services we use may set their own cookies:
- Supabase — our database and authentication provider. Sets session cookies required for login.
- Stripe — our payment processor. Sets cookies only during the payment flow for fraud prevention.
- Google Analytics(if enabled) — anonymous traffic analytics. Operates under Google's privacy policy.
We do not use advertising networks or sell cookie data to third parties.
4. How Long Cookies Last
Cookies have different lifespans depending on their purpose:
- Session cookies expire when you close your browser. These are used for temporary authentication tokens and CSRF protection.
- Persistent cookies remain for a set period — typically 30 days (authentication) to 12 months (preferences). You can delete these at any time via your browser settings.
5. Managing Cookies
You have full control over cookies. You can manage them in several ways:
- Browser settings: All modern browsers let you view, delete, and block cookies. Blocking strictly necessary cookies will prevent you from signing in.
- Our cookie banner: When you first visit SnackIQ, you can accept or decline optional cookies. You can change your preference at any time by clearing your cookies and revisiting.
- Opt-out tools: For analytics cookies, you can use browser extensions like the Google Analytics Opt-out Add-on.
Deleting cookies means some preferences (like your saved topics and display settings) may be lost until you sign back in.
6. Your Rights
Under GDPR (EU/UK) and similar laws, you have the right to:
- Know what cookies we use and why.
- Withdraw consent for non-essential cookies at any time.
- Request deletion of data collected via cookies.
To exercise these rights, contact us at privacy@snackiq.app.
7. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the date at the top of this page. Continued use of SnackIQ after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
